Academic investing
We build portfolios on market research instead of forecasts. Three ideas from that research guide how we invest.
Efficient markets
Prices move on news nobody can know ahead of time, so we don't try to guess what's next.
Diversification
We spread your money across thousands of companies around the world, plus bonds, so no single company or country decides how you do.
Premiums
Some parts of the market have tended to do better over long periods of time. We own more of them than an index fund does.
Illustrations only. They do not show actual or hypothetical returns of any portfolio or index. Past performance does not guarantee future results. All investing involves risk, including loss of principal.
Family strategy
Your family strategy covers the decisions that guide your money, like when to retire, how much to save, where retirement income comes from, taxes, and what you leave behind. We build it with you and review it at each meeting.
Sample family strategy
- Retire at 62
- Retirement income from Social Security and savings
- Max both 401(k)s this year
- Wills and beneficiaries updated
- Roth conversions next review
- Giving to church and family next review

Common questions
The things families ask us most before they get started.
What is a family strategy?
The set of decisions that guide your money, like when to retire, how much to save, where retirement income comes from, taxes, and what you leave to family. We build it with you and review it at each meeting.
What is a portfolio analysis?
A review of what you own in your portfolio today. It shows your holdings, how concentrated they are, and what you pay in fund and advisor fees. We go through it with you in the analysis meeting.
How are you paid?
We're paid by our clients through advisory fees, and your fee is listed on your quarterly statement. We don't earn commissions on products.
Where is my money held?
In accounts in your name at an independent custodian. We manage the investments, but we never take possession of your money.
Do I have to move everything to work with you?
No. We look at everything you have and talk through what makes sense to move and what to leave where it is.
What happens after I send my info?
An advisor near you reaches out, asks a few questions about your family, and answers yours. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you.
